I've been sketching and drawing for as long as I can remember. It's always been a passion of mine, and at times, a personal/emotional release. For me creating art is about the experience, not the end product. Its not that I want my drawings to look terrible, but the struggle for perfection shouldn't overshadow the enjoyment of the creative process. As far as subject matter goes, I tend to err on the side of fantasy, and occasionally nature. (I really need to think about doing some pieces of real-life people though, for my portfolio.) I also occasionally do fan-works, mostly from the Legend of Zelda series, since it's my favorite game.
The media I use includes watercolor, watercolor pencil, charcoal, ink, pastels, clay, and oil paint. Though I'm most proficient with pencil, colored pencil, and recently, digital. Most of my current work is digital, though typically it starts off as a pencil sketch or an inked sketch.
I've recently graduated with a two-year Illustration degree from Kalamazoo Valley Community College. After dinking around for, oh, three years or so, I finally decided that since art seemed to be the thing I did best, I should probably major there.
I'm hoping to find a job involving art in some way or another- even if it's doing freelance. I've always thought childeren's books would be a good way to get started... though if I hope to do any freelance work I really need to develop some more personal disipline.
A steady job at a design company somewhere would be nice, since I do plan to move out of my father's house at SOME point. I would definately be willing to move out of state, if it meant a steady paycheck.
